michele vincenzo fusco - tumbleweed

Judgereview:
Intro draws you straight in from the off-wobble bass in effect! Well programmed drums, nicely produced, enough variation throughout the tune to hold ones attention, and yet workable on a dancefloor, guaranteed to keep you stomping. It's these elements that swung it;production, variation, danceability.Well Done Michele!!! Look forward to hearing a full length version!!!

liquid beats - The whistle tune

Judgereview:
A well made and produced piece of intelligent music,a la Aquasky- Nice intro, well programmed breaks, great use of atmospherics, and brass instruments.Mellow mate! If it hadn't been for 'Tumbleweed's' danceability factor, then 'Whistletune' would be clear winner.Excellent work!

A minimal vibe to this one, good use of atmos...drums seem slightly fast for the overall flow of the tune to me-could be this is intentional-would like to hear a bit more variation to the breaks, but overall a chilled little tune.Nice.

Crisp hi-hats in the intro, that bass sounds like it actually came from a double bass instrument-good build, drops into a cinematic sounding string and atmos laden offering, blimey real guitar! Interesting variations, and influences mate-something seems to be missing from the bottom end though. Original!

Dark menacing Squarepusher, sorta track.Impressed by the beat programming.Nice work mate. What the hell is that vocal sample??! Dunno if it's the .mp3 encoding,or my equipment, but the bass seems to swamp in certain areas.Overall though a good track.

dumi - Strange Things Happen All The Time

Judgereview:
This tune has got to be the one of the trippest tunes to enter the contest this year! With a fly triphop beat and an amazing booming basslines this tunes stays interesting from the start to the end! My favorite feature of this song is without doubt the harmonica thats sounds like it was samples from Sergio Leone's "Once upon a time in the West". It really brings this tune to the next level of atmosphere.

Overall a very well-produced tune with a nice steady beat and cool bassline - great work!

Daymoe - Kompressor 05

Judgereview:
This is for sure a lovely chillout tune - absolutely perfect for a sunday morning when I'm doing this review! Everything seems to be well-balanced in this tune and all elements just rolls along smoothly - when you produce chillout - this is how you should do it!

The beat is a stright off hiphop beat with too many surprises. I think the track could have had room for some more variety in the beat - some cuts to make it more interesting to listen to. But then again it may disturb the harmony of the tune so I guess it better without it!
The structure and melody is nice and relaxing - based on the chillout rhodes the tune brings in different elements to support the atmosphere. One of the cool things are the scratchlines that falls in natrual with the rest - pretty well done!
Mixing-wise the tune has no flaws - its pretty stright forward so there is not much to say about it! A good chillout tune has to be mixed nicely or it would be disturbing so I think Daymoe pulls that off nicely!
Overall a nice tune that's really easy to listen to but doesn't offer much out of the ordinary...Its well-produced and everything sounds great but I think a vocalline could have made it perfect...

L-Mac feat. Cq - Predator Instinct

Judgereview:
Nice and solid production with a steady hiphop beat and some good synthlines. But the really cool feature of this song is the rap flow - which is not something we see that often in this contest. The rapper laids it down nice with the production but I feel something is missing for this tune to stand out from the rest...

Deathray & Protznast - Animated Suspencion

Judgereview:
I simplely love all the jazzy elements of this song. We can never get too much jazz into electronic music if you ask me! The bassline the rhodes the piano..prefect! The beat is very experimental and I enjoy that - but it makes it not accessible for the wider audience. I think with a more straith break the tune would have much more apeal - but it would sure loose some of its originality! Hope to hear more tunes from you in the future..cuz I like what I hear...

kids and chemicals - man with three faces

Judgereview:
Awesome laidback tune driven by smooth melodyline and a downtempo break. The tune also features some well-mixed vocalsamples that keeps the whole thing alive. Noticed a breakdown at 01:46 which is a pretty rare thing for a chillout tune...cool though! The melodyline could have a little more variety but its a good one so its not that critical!

Overall a very pleasing tune to listen to with some good new ideas...

djkim - Rolling Again

Judgereview:
Let me start out answering the question of one of the other reviews - is this breakbeat? Well not really....but hiphop has always been a close cousin to breakbeat - hiphop from pioneer years was based on the same breaks us breakers use today... However this being a nuage hiphop tune it can be hard to tell...westcoast acts pretty much killed the breaks in hiphop - enough history now! For this tune I am a little unsure how much belong to djkim - the Janis Joplin sample does ofcause not - but what about the flows - are they acapella from another tune? If so there are not much left..

No offense - this is a well-arranged hiphop tune and surely hit material for the radios today - but production wise it doesn't really offer anything new. Some streight hiphop beats and some simple synthlines. Not to sound too negative I want to make sure I pay you the necessary respect if the flow belong to you. Its really catcy and I wish you the best of luck getting this stuff out there...I fell you have a chance on the charts with this one...

ElLieN - ElLieN Abduction

Judgereview:
This is a great atmospheric tune with some really original voice samples to go with the trippy vibes! The beats are stright hiphop beat and bassline and chords are pretty ordinary. But the use of the 30s radio theater samples brings so much atmosphere to the tune! I love it!

The tune is a little short though and the beat and melody could have needed some more variety - other than that this is a great and orginal tune!

9 yards - Wild and wonderful music

Judgereview:
Pretty cool tune in the 2 mins it going - but whats with the 4 minutes of silence in the end? I thought there was a hidden track in the end but nothing ever came in...anyways the mixing of this tune is pretty good and the vocalsamples are nicely arranged. The beats is a stright-on hiphop beat without any cuts of any sort. It would have been nice if the beat had more variety to go with the crazy mixdown on the voicesamples...

This is a chillout tune - but the simple criteria of this contest is for the entires to at least have a breakbeat in it! This tune doesn't - however its a nice production with a cool laidback vibe. Too bad the mixrate of the mp3 is only 96 kbps - could have been nice to hear in crystal clear sound! Not a bad tune at all - just not really fitting this contest...

WICCATRON - BEZEERK - HEARTBREAKS (WICCATRON MIX)

Judgereview:
Bam bam boom - wiccatron on the mix - keeping is nice and raw for our listening pleasure! This track is hype and off the chain from the very first minute to the last. Superb sound quality - crazy big beats - twisted clever mixing skills is the name of the wiccatron game. Knowing the original beezerk tune its actually pretty close to impossible to tell that this tune is a remix of it! Some familiar sections 01:45 where the heartbreak organ chords kicks in but other than that this tune live its own freaky life! :)

The Beats in this tune is amazing and really shows fantastic mixing skills! A heavy steady kinda oldskool break follow though this tune - but with so many small twists along the way. Really keeps the listener paying attension at all times. The rhythms actually sometimes falls off beat leaveing the listener with open month - wow what just happend... Great breaks for sure...I only wish there were more of this stuff around!
The Structure and melody of this tune is pretty hard to figure out - the whole thing is pretty fuzzy and just kicks off in an inferno of beats and electro sounds and actually stays that way all the way though! The beezerk elements never sounded better - nice and clear - I don't know what this guy does with his samples! The synthlines and heavy electrobass works pretty well - but I do miss some more variety in the synth – maybe a catcy hook that you would remember after the tune is over! My absolute favorite part of this tune comes after the crazy laugh sample and the big bass guitarcrash comeing in – damn that cool!
Mixing is under total control at all times! Wiccatron takes us though an amazing journey in cuts and innovate transitions – check out the mindblowing cut at: 03:42! But I have to admit this tune is NOT for the wide audience – probably even only for the true electrobreak heads! Its untraditional mixing style and use of heavy distortion is rare and challenging to listen to. I enjoyed it for sure – I had to repeat it 5 times when I first got it just to feel I understood what was going on…
Overall this is a topend tune with many amazing features and new ideas. I value this tune for its originality but do miss little commercial appeal.

BUT OVERALL A NICE LITTLE GROOVER - BUT HEY WHERE ARE THE VOCALS? IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU MADE FROM FOR IT BUT DIDN'T PUT IT IN YET - SOME OLDSKOOL RAPLINES OR A VOCODER VOICE SHOULD DO THE TRICK - SURELY A GOOD TRACK - KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK...

Some pretty twisted stuff for sure! Some interesting ways of using distortion can be found in this tune - pretty new to me anyway. Overall a well-produced tune with some cool steady beats and some nice synthwork! Lacking a little variety and some voice/vocal samples to make this tune fully work!

The tune has lots of energy and some really nice cuts in the beats. However the soundquality, noisy distored guitar and the fact thats its so short really hurts the overall impression of this tune...

BREAK A BUD - ficke strikes

Judgereview:
The experimental in this tune is hard to miss. The beats are a little hard to figure out - some places it falls out of place - but Im guessing it was ment that way! Nice mixing of voice samples - but I am missing a melody or a bassline! In my opinion music should sound good to the third person - and I have a feeling this tune wouldn't really be easy to listen to for a non-musician listener. But it was exciting for me to check out...keep it up...maybe the rest of us it just not quite ready for you music yet!

Judgereview:
I like the fact that this tune is experimental but still stays true to the ordinary musical structures which allows everyone to enjoy listening to. Not an easy thing to pull of - since you easily get carried away when you get in the experimental mode! The tune has some really good synthlines and a nice steady beat! There are lots of variety in the music elements of this song which is probably due to the experimental side of things - this is good thing. I would agree with Midislacker that some of the vocalsamples could be pitched a little differently - but I do appreciate that you put voices in there - its not the norm for this type of music! Overall a cool tune with lots of nice ideas...

Starts out pretty cool - but when the beats kicks in I am wondering why you entered this contest - there are no breaks in this song - only a 4x4 house beat - and a drumloops in the far backgroud. They way you mixed with that voice scream thing (whatever it is) is pretty cool though...

b.b.borne - bastard breaks vol.1 (short cut)

Judgereview:
B.B Borne did it again! Hits us up with a bangin' funky groover that for sure will be staying in my playlist for looooong time! From the very first listen you can't help but move your feet and hum along to the funky sounds of the new Bastard Breaks! Being a big fan of Borne's Loco Break serie this baby fully lives up to the stardards in both quality and innovative mixing style! The track kicks off with a cool voice hook and a broken beat before launching the funky groove of classic breaks and a smooth oldskool rhythm hook! Later on a sweet vocalhook that sounds like a pitch-up Oasis track (not my area so I could be wrong).

The Beat being etchy and cool in a B.B Borne track is somwething you can always count on - and this track is no exception. Based on a classic break from back then - Borne has been cutting and chooping up this break to the max. A nice twist come at 03:09 where a 4x4 beat bangs in the mix - can easily turn out noisy but Borne pulls it off! I have nothing to add but - simply saying -"perfectly done my man"!
The Structure and melody of this song is not the primary feature - this is a true break tune so its all about the funkygrooves and the breaks. But a nice little acid synthlines kick in the end of this tune making this tune as close to perfect as is possibly can!
The Mixing - the cutting - the juggeling and all that is amazing. This tune is based on the oldskool rules of structure and use of samples - but the mixing is really what makes it sound fresh and new. If it didnt have all the crazy mixdowns it would have sounded a little oldfashined I think (not that I would care). I think I heard this song around 50 times now and I still love it - and Im sure the mixing has a lot to do with that!

Overall this is what funkybreaks is all about - having fun - making awesome beats and keepin it real! Borne does it all to perfecting in this tune...

Lost (C)luster & EugenMusic.com - Trollop's Prisoner 2005

Judgereview:
This is cool, professional theme song for anything was what the review of this tune stated and I can’t say it better. The sounds of this tune is huuuuge and the listener is being led into another universe from the first second with a smashing intro! After this a funky guitar kicks in along with some really cool chemical beats! The main acid synthline slowly moves in to support the other elements in a perfect way! I only wish the tune was longer so I didn’t have to repeat it all the time!
There is no doubt Lost (C)luster has skills and knows exactly what he is doing. Nothing seem to be missing in this symphony of electronic sounds, guitar and big beats!

Beat: The beat is perfectly balanced with the rest of the tune – it’s not too much a break to go with the guitar and the big synth sound. Its got a realdrummer rock sound to it that sounds awesome with the distorted guitar. The beat could have been groovier and funkier for sure – but then I guess it would have taken away the attention away from all the other cool elements that this tune has to offer!
The structure: and melody of this tune is superior to most entries in the contest and its really the driving force of this tune – they way it should be! It take time to start with a trippy intro but never gets to the point where you are feel things are repeating it self – something any producer could envy!
The mixing: and originally has no flaws either – the entire song runs in perfect harmony and you can just kick back and let yourself be blown away by the whole thing!
Overall: this is mind-blowing piece of music that would work perfectly for a movie or a computer game! An impressive sound with lots of good details and a truly great blend of electronic elements with real musical instruments and.

CREECHA - BUNKER

Judgereview:
I’m loving it – soooo funky it almost hurts. The beats in this tune are off the hook and goes perfectly with the crazy bassline. Evil dark nu skool bass to and an annoying acid synth makes this tune quite a challenge. The main “dog bough” sample actually gets quite catchy after a few listens – you are almost looking forward to hear it again :)
This tune has a lot to offer – it shows elements of ambient and nu skool breaks and drum n bass. Its impossible to predict what happends next – and this keeps the listener on his toes at all time.

The beats: in this tune is awesome and keeps changing during the song – starts out nu skool – and blends into funky breaks and end out in drum n bass style beats in the last part of the tune! I must say I am in heavy when the funky break slowly kicks in around 01:15 – love it! The way the transitions of these really different style of beats are really clever – when you hear the tune you don’t notice but if you try to skip from the beginning of this tune to the end you wonder how it was possible for Creecha to mix it together – but he pulled it off for sure!
The structure: and melody of this tune is not for the rookie breaker – you gotta be into electronic music and the nu skool break vibe to really enjoy this tune. The tune is pretty much driven by the basslines – and lots of them too. Who needs fancy synth and stings when it can be done with bass alone!
The mixing: as mentioned earlier is fantastic and really original and innovative. This is a unique tune that doesn’t stop amazing me every time I hear it.
Bunker could need some vocal samples or synthlines to meet the wider audiences – but somehow I have a feeling the Creecha is not interested in doing that…

BeeZerk - Showtime

Judgereview:
Heartbreaks at it's best – BBP04s Winner lays down another awesome tune for our listening pleasure. I gotta say that I can’t really get enough of Beezerk’s smooth hit cocktail of funky beats, sweet pitched up vocals and an awesome clubhouse disguise. You really get happy when you listen to this music – everything is so well-produced and just the way it should be!
Beezerk even spices things up with a heavy deep “bad boy” bassline – that gives an extra twist – even contrast to the other nice and sweet elements of the synth and vocals. A new thing in the heartbreak style I think – and if you ask me it should be a steady part of the style form now on

The beat: is nice and groovy and sounds great with the heavy bassline. However it may be a little too nice and electronic – could have been great with a funky realdrummer twist to the beat – a banging snare and more kick in the bassdrum. The shake stuff sounds cool though!
The structure and melody of this tune is just perfect the smooth funky wah wah guitarloop and the house pianolines and the smooth strings! However it doesn’t seem to be quite as original and theme as last years winning tune. The melody is quite predictable – which in way is some of the beauty of this tune. You love it from the very first listen because of this!
The mixing: of this tune is flawless – the little cuts between each section is so well-organized and superior it makes you wanna turn the tune back all the time to figure out how you can copy that transition. These little twists keeps the listeners attentions and is one of the thing that makes this tune so great!
Overall a state-of-the-art Beezerk tune that once again shows his amazing producing talent and leaves a noone doubtful why he was last year winner of the BBP. I wish the heartbreaks will be the next big thing…

Kane - Euro

Judgereview:
Just like in last years contest Kane delivers a hi-quality entry which demonstrates good ideas and great production skillz. This time with a funky break to go with the awesome synthwork that makes the basis for this tune. The tune also features a cool bassline that flows along perfectly with the trippy synthlines.
The beat: of this tune is really great – and it really takes away the tune from being an ordinary techno tune. The beats is steady and easy to listen to and it just makes the whole thing bounce!
The structure and melody of the tune is not too surprising and doesn’t bring any new sensational element to the table. However the synthlines and organ chords makes the tune well worth listening to!
The mixing is optimized for true chill-out listening. It’s a straight mix with easy transitions between the different elements of the tune. The beat often filters its way out before a synthsection which works out pretty well.
Overall this is a great techno acid tune mixed with some cool funky breaks making this a really nice tune to listen to. Too bad the samplerate of the mp3 is so low – could be its mp3pro but I can’t play that! I’m sure the synthlines would have sounded awesome in 192 kbps! Keep up the good work man!

Dafunk - Feel The Drums (feat. Danny's Elements Vocal Line)

Judgereview:
Wow…big big sound – atmosphere and trippy effects. The tune is driven by the amazing vocals of Danny Tenaglia tune – and man is this stuff is awesome or what?! The trippy beats are cool also – the main break is known from the Crystal Method debut album Vegas but it sure sound great in this new mellow disguise. The tune also features some really great synthwork by Dafunk that really shows his producing talents. A really great sections starts at 04:07 when the chillout piano kicks in making a perfect synthesis with the mainsynth – powerful stuff!

The beat: is pretty cool – hard but at the same time trippy and chillout! It could have been nice with some variety in beat in some places, to avoid it sounding too loopy. However it’s not really a must since all the slow sections without beats kinda makes up for the missing viariety!
The structure and melody: is pretty good for the kind of atmospheric tune it is. It doesn’t really have a catchy theme to get the listener’s attention – but the cool vocals take care of that!
The mixing: and production in general has no errors what so ever – and leave you with nothing to do but kick back and listen to the trippy sounds. The mixing style is smooth and safe – and this fits pretty well with the tune – too many interesting cuts would probably make it impossible to flow along with it the way you can.
Overall: a very nice tune that satisfies the listener even after the very first time you hear it. Its not revolutionary to the music scene – but it does entertain you for the 7 mins when it slowly moves on it way! The tune could need a little work on the beats and maybe a climax in the end. It sounds like the whole tune is building up to something that never really comes! However this is truly a great tune that is well worth a listen and I hope to hear more stuff from Dafunk in this style in the future…

chris e lee - Shadows of the night

Judgereview:
Shadows of the night is a dancefloor oriented break tune with some nice vocals and some cool nu skool type beats. Definitely on the commercial side of things but it shows some really nice string, flute and synthloops that sounds perfect with the female vocallines. The tune even has a early 90s europop style rapsection to go with it! The bassline in the tune doesn’t quite hit the note of vocals and the synth – should a been pitched a little bit up! It may just be me being an perfectionist :)

The beat: is one of the better things about this tune! A typical 4x4 dancebeat would have made this tune too stereo-typical I think! The forward moving nu skool breaks actually makes the whole thing sound fresh and new! Could have been cool with some more variety in the beat – but it works the way it is – so why bother :)
The structure and melody of the song is great and works really well. It may be based on loops but it doesn’t prevent it from sounding good! The best things is without doubt the orchestral string loop that makes the vocal sound really dramatic.
The mixing: of the tune is pretty rough – and I don’t hear any real transition between the elements – they seem to just suddenly kick in and stop again. Could have been solved with some invert hihats and crashes!
Overall: a pretty nice tune with some cool beats but it needs a little work on the production side!

Sonic Soul - easy5

Judgereview:
I'm trying not to focus too much on the bad sound quality of this tune - so let me start out getting it out of my system. I'm not usally that much of a hi-fi freak - but this is too lo for my ear. Other that this is quite nice tune to listen to (I'm imaging a hi-fi version of it and…there I go again..I though I had it out of my system) – it’s pretty well produced and works around some classic funk chords with some hiphop beats on top!

The Beats are not really fitting for the funkybreak category – but I guess you were feeling it was more funk than a downtempo or hiphop tune. The main beat is pretty ordinary and doesn’t really challenge the listener. Some extra snares are added at 1:40 but it actually sounds a little off to me – but it may just be that I am usually working with breaks so obviously I’m pretty focused on beats. But for a hiphop style beat I guess its not that bad…
The Structure and melody is surely the best part of this tune. Compared to many of the other entries you have a real melody and bassline you work around – which is nice for a change. However some of the effects like the one at 01:01 sound a little out of tune with the bassline. The tune has some good piano hooks other chords I can quite identity.
The Mixing is pretty ordinary and traditional as well – no real surprises and it runs the same way all the way though. I could have wished for a little more variety in the mix! Maybe some vocals could make it more interesting to listen to!

Overall a nice little funk tune with some good melody features but could need a little work on the beat and the mixing. Doesn’t seem quite finished either – its not even 3 mins. long and it seems to end pretty sudden. Summed up: more variety – twists in the beat and better sound quality and it would great!

dj ViNyLLLLL - mixing north sonics

Judgereview:
A really oldskool beat-driven groover track with some cool cuts and lots of bigbeat style breaks. Being a big fan of the oldskool bigbeat era this is a cool tune for me to listen to. I like the rough mixing of the different vocal pieces and how it all seems to revolve around the funky oldskool beats!
Someone said in a review that this sounds like a Ninja Tunes - Coldcut tune and thats a pretty close comparison I think. They were one of the pioneers to do this type of samplebased music – so I would be proud to be compared with them for sure.
However one thing I gotta say about this tune is that doesn’t really sound like its made in 2005 – listening to it – it could sound like it was made in 1995! I choose to believe that was the whole intension of the tune – to stay real to the old bigbeat style by making a tune that includes all the element that are needed in a true oldskool groover: a simple break – a catcy melody hook – lots of samples on top of each other!

Beat: The beat sounds a little too oldskool for me – some places it almost sounds 80s like with a simple basskick and snares. The places where the loop rolls with it – that’s when it gets the bigbeat vibe! Could have been made fresher with a more modern beat with more variety.
Structure: and the melody of this tune is pretty simple and doesn’t offer too much variety either. I’m am really missing a bassline in this tune – something to move the beat in-your-face. The synthlines isn’t really enough to make this tune work. Mixing: Is pretty good, cuz I think it really stays real with the bigbeat genre – nice and rough! I love the vocal pieces – and this is truly the best thing about this tune. The vocal “super sonic vibes…” really runs good with the synthlines – and I hear some good filter pieces of it too!
Overall: I don’t feel the vocals are quite enough to get the listener’s attention away from the missing elements on the melody and beat.

DJ Carver - Every

Judgereview:
True funky break style track with a fair portion of funky vibes and oldskool beats. Kicks off with a flanger effect beat and the classic “How do they do that” samples. The first thing that really hits your ear is that the beatloops doesn’t loop probably – and you can even hear the clicks at the end of the loops. This quite a shame cuz the elements that are mixed together are pretty good but the production side of things seem to be missing a little something. Not all samples match the funky vibes of the mix – some dark samples and some of the elements are not quite pitch correctly with the beats. You should have stayed with the funky organ chords and the sirens and maybe add a funky bassline and it would have been all great!.

The beats: are pretty good – the different loops runs nicely with eachother – just too bad with the clicks. Could have been nice with a little variety in the beats – changing the beats in some of the slower section often work wonder – that way when the hard beat kicks in I really sound big!
The structure and melody of the tune tend to get a little loopy and monotone – when the loops doesn’t have the right pitch. You should have had a programmed bassline to kinda carry the rest of the elements/loops of the song.
The mixing: of the song is not too bad and you found some elements that mostly sounds good together. The overall mixing of the loops could need a little sharping up but with a little more work I’m sure you got it!
Overall a nice tune with some cool elements – a little lack on the production side but some nice ideas for sure! Keep it up!

The Funkafied Fro - that reward

Judgereview:
The reward is a funky hip hop groover in a turntabalist style mix. It’s pretty short and the sound quality is pretty bad – but its pretty entertaining to listen to anyway. It kicks of with a cool battleLP type practice sample and it kicks in heavy hip hop beat and a groovy repeating stab to roll with the beat.
Some pretty clever cuts around 01:05 with some cool scratch section and some more twisted voice samples. The 2 big sections with the beat and stabs running alone gets a little monotone and they don’t offer to much if you are not a truecore hiphop dj who appreciate the oldskool stab sound!

The beat: is pretty straight forward and could a needed just a little more punch to make the whole thing work. The whole tune is pretty much driven by this beat so I should offer more variety – even though its not the tradition in the hiphop skool!
The structure: and melody well…there is not really any melody and the since this is a turntable tune there are not really any structure needed – just a mix that show skills so I think the way you build up the tune is pretty okay!
The mixing and originality: of this tune a not too noticeable – it doesn’t really bring anything new to the table – but it does provide us with 2 mins of entertainment so I guess we can’t complain!
Overall: I must say it needs a little something extra to really get my blood boiling – I’m banging my head but I was waiting for some more scratchlines and vocals cuts that never showed up. But I enjoyed listening to it so keep your turntables rolling and keep practicing and you will drop down some really dope stuff one day!

knight rider... 1st thing that came to mind when this track started lol. just thought id get that out of the way now.. the artist that made this track obviously knew i had a love for 2 step breaks aswell cos they are in abundance in this track. as are square basses another deep love of mine. so so far so good then. This is definitely a fast paced tune with alot of imagination used, the drumbeat is really upbeat and dancable, the tune itself has a real nice feel to it, with all the little analog noises, blip noises and reverbs all over the place thought to be honest it never really feels like its going anywere.. but then what dance track does?... this is actually really well done though so that small bugbear can be discounted. listening to it a few times that i have now.. there is very little i find wrong with the sound quality. its very clean and crisp (Something that near enough all the tunes in the bb contest have been.. its a real skill fest out there :)) .. this tune though reminds me of oldskool rave stuff with a new flavour attached and for that it gets a huge great cheshire cat smile from me. ya know what? download this.. you wont be disappointed at all. its got everything a decent breakbeat choon requires.. a driving bassline, a funky and diverse breakbeat.. weird blip noises and a real driving feel to it.. enjoyed this one alot.

well ... berkshire eh.. home of erm... ali g lol.. and now this too. a ground stomping bitch of a tune.. reminding me of freestylers in their most "brockwile" mood. starting out with strange defender type analog type noises and a shuffling bassline, this tune quickly establishes itself as a bit of a stomper.. slamming its simple yet effective beat in your face like a fly smashing against a ferrari's windscreen.. "this is the sound of the underground"... never a truer word spoken in a tune me thinks. the bassline simplistic and never changing works so damn well within the fray you cant help but feel your toes tap, your head bob your heart race.. hear me now!... damn this tune is simple but effective. it'd definitely be in a set id play out somewere i could see a crowd moving to this.. it switches over slightly midway through to incorperate a pretty simple 2note spread (pretty much the buzzword for this tune "simple") and still the toe's are a tapping.. head bobbing. what can i say bad about this tune? its simplistic in its nature so i cant really fault it for that.. sound quality is crystal.. um its short?.. not really its never runs long enough to be boring or too short to not get into.. ya know what? this could be perfect. but then id be lying.. cos nothings perfect. but this comes close.

Jump right in.. this tune sure as hell does.. absolutely superb funky drumming.. nice repeat circle bassline sure to get you bobbing along straight away, warped analog noises keep the baby moving.. some new skool synths building on that pressure.. rythmn work still tight as hell, strings?!?.. my god this is a beauty isnt it. pitch change (my old trick) i bet your still bobbing along now along with me.. this'd sound so cool in a nightclub it really would. theres a nice little breakdown to just the essential components before a full breakdown to just string bleeps and lowlevel beat.. and then?. trance line!!! and a really nice smooth one at that.. quick simple and elegant and it goes absolutely brilliant with the rest of the original tune.. this is a real contender as it stands but the writer aint finished there. not by a long chalk.. he wants to impress me .. he wants to make me go to bed with his tune.. he adds a lovely 2nd line.. all floaty.. a 3rd line to accompany the 2nd and i am in love again!. before this tune is even finished my verdict is pretty clear .. this is an AWESOME arrangement and one that i thoroughly enjoyed listening too.. absolutely tremendous.

Influx1 - Hovercraft (Mental Divergence)

Judgereview:
Not really had the pleasure of listening to anything previous of influx's so I came into this tune blind as to what he/she was capable of doing. The 1st thing i noticed was the crispness of the sound's its very pleasing to the ears, this of course is obviously a good start. but anyway lets have a proper listen and break the tune down a little here, starts out with a set of nice floaty chords and a pretty funky little break in the background, there is a real nice feel to the tune so far.. im definitely liking the simple but effected drumbeats slowly building up and up until the eventual breakdown to a cool hooveresque bassline complete with beeps and blips. Drumbeat fills back in and we got a bit of a tune on our hands here, theres alot of insidental changes to the drumbeat which helps keep things fresh and danceable.. insidental vocal's and those funky little beeps keep things interesting. i have to admit im pretty impressed with this tunes sound, it has a real "matrix" feel to it.. it wouldnt have sounded out of place in one of the various fight scenes. so the bad sides? theres a couple, its a little repetetive (but then what dance music isnt?), the drumbeat i suppose could be a little less thin but thats just me being picky, ahh i cant really fault it on any account this is a damn good tune. its a solid contender and i have to admit im loving it.. great great stuff.

Atomique feat. PsiXozz - This Place Is Hot

Judgereview:
starting out with some pretty strange noises and a atmospheric vox .. things start off very well and the tune moves along nicely. 1st thing that strikes me when the tune gets going is the weird arsed baseline.. its very different and not like much ive heard in my musical time.. very interesting to say the least. the drum beat is simple and to the point, and nice and bouncy.. sound quality is very nice its clean and crisp hell i can hear alot of effort has gone into this tune but unfortunately for me at least its not paid off well enough. the tune is pretty annoying after the 2nd or 3rd listen which is a real bad thing for any tune to become.. i think its the excessive bassline and the fact that there is very little let up/breakdowns etc the drumbeat is TOO simple and doesnt seem to change and some of the sounds used in the backing track dont fit properly.. love the starcraft samples though. overall this is an above average tune that some people will love very much, theres nothing particulary wrong with it but its no were near as good as it could have been with a little more imagination.

DJ Slyde - Espionage

Judgereview:
theres very few tunes that i can think of that use the dialing mistone well (you know the thing i mean.. if you leave your phone off the hook long enough it starts to beep beep beep beep.. yeah?.. yeap we all know that annoying noise).. and here it is again making yet another cameo appearance. the tune starts off sounding pretty bloody evil actually.. clanging sounds and a demonicesque laugh followed by lots more clanging shit and some sort of ethnic ooooo'ing.. oh and BONGO'S.. cool f'king bongo's to be honest. and the breakdown into the beat is Awesome, i really like how its done it gives me goosebumps.. at this point the tune has really got me going.. then comes the kick in the teeth.. a pretty basic bassline. the tune moves along nicely though theres no doubt about that, it changes and twists with new different sounds and scapes which stop the tune from being boring.. its actually quiet mental in a good way. I definitely dig the ethnic aaaah's n ooooh's but somewere along the line the writer of this tune thought it'd be a good idea to have that frikkin beep beep beep beeep beep beep go through the middle section and its pissing annoying lol.. i guess it'll be someones cup of tea (theres plenty of techno heads in the world that'll dance to just beep noises). in the middle of the middle section (yes) theres a awesome repeat/cut repeat section that just slides effortlessly back into itself and thats where the tune fails for me.. it doesnt change anymore. the ending just goes on and on and on till it ... ends. if there had been as much imagination put into the 2nd half as the 1st this could have been a really superb little tune but as it stands its just a really good one.. a really good effort and ill be looking out for this artists name in the future.. clearly shown alot of potential.

Rollznoyce - Krypton

Judgereview:
Starting out with probably the most informative intro ever.. this tune begins in such a strange way it's likeable... and may i add professionally done too. the bassline that comes in afterwards is suitably bubbly, and the synths that go with it nice and eerie.. i dont much go for the initial drumbeat, it seems a little TOO disjointed. but it gets better very quickly.. and the tune bubbles along nicely, a real london nightclub vibe going on, you can just about see the shortskirts and glowsticks hehe. the breakdown in the dead centre of the tune is nicely done and what comes out the other end is a nicely warped sound.. that despite my like for it doesnt seem to fit very well in the whole picture.. and this is where the tune falls down slightly nearly breaking its own ankles. there are some nice sections in this tune, but they dont seem to fit as a whole.. the instrumentation goes a little awkward towards the middle section of the tune.. it levels back out pretty quick but this short indestcretion is unfortunately unforgivable.. the rest of the tune though is really good. really good.

SpiralGrooves - Bounty Hunter

Judgereview:
This tune grabs attention pretty quick by coming straight to the point.. for a few seconds your thinking... hmm sounds a bit like absurd by fluke.. then its hmm now it sounds like aphex twin. Im not sure what to make of this tune to be perfectly honest, it deserves a genre of its own for being so damn different. the sound quality though is very nice, the tune itself doesnt suffer for being strange either, its worth listening too but definitely NOT a danceable tune unless you own 3 legs. There are some really good idea's present aswell, swapping and changing sections floating away in the background (mainly the bell type noises). unfortunately it doesnt stop it sounding very samey and maybe even a little rushed through. alot of imagination has gone into this, but thats no real substitute for thought, they should really run hand in hand together and it doesnt happen here.. the tune on its own merits is fine if as i said before.. a little weird. Again i'll repeat, not sure what to make of this little number, pretty much any music like this makes me frown for half an hour before either rising a smile or being deleted. this is just going to get a permanent frown i think.

Tarekith - Know The Path

Judgereview:
Starting out with a standard kind of beat and some pretty dark samples this got my attention pretty quick and my sub speakers began to sing pretty fast. this is again a first time listen to this artists music and i was pretty pleased with what ive heard. so on to reviewing. the drumwork in this is very well laid out, with alot of variation in the beats and cuts, it keeps the main tune which is very samey running along nicely.. it has a definite darkcore feel to it (if a little slower) I like the basslines too they are very simple and work well enough and dont take the piss with the speakers too much either.. pretty much perfectly balanced... there is a section around the 3:30mark where the drumbeat moves up in pitch.. this is a badly done effect done well it manages to fit in and as a breakdown of sorts made me smile (probably cos id have never thought of doing it myself). Unfortunately the tune never really seems to go anywere and for 7minutes + this can be a bit of a uphill struggle, there was plenty of times upon initial listening that i wanted to click onto something else because i felt id already heard all it could offer within the 1st 3minutes.. which is a real shame because with a little more imagination this could have been a really really impressive tune. as it stands its an above average affair, might maybe work in a club environment if remixed again and given more substance .. nice try though but no cigar today.

Demorganic - Heaven Dors

Judgereview:
analog noises abound in this one.. squelching away like snow underfoot as the sun begins to shine, taking away its white sheen and turning it into that dirty grey mulch.. very poetic. I am afraid to say though that the sound quality is what shoots this tune in the foot and makes it bleed all over the carpet, its very very low in the spectrum nearly sounding like its being played next door.. im not sure if this was the intention of the artist but either way it spoils a pretty interesting peice. its full of little sections, changes of samples and patterns to try and keep the interest from waining too long and for all intent and purpose that works.. its a shame that each section on its own merit isnt as good as it could be. the drumbeat is a old stale affair, replete of any real kind of action or change which is the 2nd bullet in the foot.. the bass is pretty much non existent and if it IS there totally out of the eq range making everything very flat. its a shame that this tune didnt get more thought put into it, and maybe hadnt been released before it was sound tested by a few people.. it could have been alot more than it is. an under acheiver.

Wing Fly - The long distance voyager

Judgereview:
The best produced tune in the old skool section for sure. Got a lot of funkyness, freshness and originality. Many great passages which are mixed very great together. The greatest thing is the very high quality, refered to mixing and sound. Spend surely a lot of time on it, sounds great. Good job, it works! Top tune.

Nelson Morais - BreakBeat Paradise

Judgereview:
A pretty nice and easygoing tune. The Track is pure groove. Pretty melodic. Nice caribbean flair. Got a lot summer vibe in it. Simple but catchy. All fits perfectly together. Very original. The best melodylines of all tracks in the old skool section. The pads together with the steeldrums creates a pretty good holliday atmosphere. Good Job.

A really nice and solid production. Well know ol' skool Rap Vocals mixed together with pumpin breakbeats. A nice mixture. Works always great. Not that original but solid. Great tune for spinning in a club and dancing to. Trippy and electronical sound at its best. Good work!
