The very first time I heard this tune it just blew me away. This is real hitlist material! The hi-pitched happy hardcore vocals fits perfectly with the production! This is like a happy hardcore/trance tune with breaks which makes tunes so brilliant. The beats kicks in with a minimalistic beat at 00:50 and develops into a oldskool rave kinda break.

The melody is nice and catchy and the bassline supports the beat really well and keep the whole think pumping to the very last second! The synthlines are very well put together with the sweet piano grooves - everything seems to form a synthesis of pure brilliance! I gotta say I love this piece!

Overall a superb production that is able to be both catchy and innovative at the same time - definitely a topend tune!!!

Once again VirtualMode provides us with superb quality breaks which in the Breakbeat Contest 2003 gave him a second place position. With a same rating as the winning tune the visitors voted to Lodgers advantage. There is no doubt of this guys talent and A120 is another prefect example of it. The track is a totally cool and brilliant nu skool break tune that features some cool funky breaks and some awesome basslines. The sound of that bass it just H*O*T!

The whole space atmosphere of the tune fits perfectly with the nuskool style and the classic "first man on the moon" samples has never sounded better. Cool synth and awesome mixing - I've got nothing but good stuff to say about this tune!

Its sure deserves a topend ratting in this contest...

This is an original tune for sure! More hitlist material designed for the floor to go crazy too! I wouldn't be surprised to hear this pumpin in a club some time soon!

Friedfunk has a nice and steady beat which is more house than break oriented which probably makes this tune more accessable fir the mainstream which is an art it self. Makeing a tune that we love and still addresses the mainstream crowd!

The hoverbass synth is brilliant and its that kinda stuff that makes peoples stomack hurt when played in a club! Its a cool production and the only thing missing might me some vocals or vox! Surely a topend tune...

As usual B.B Borne brings on a good show - this time is no exception! He enteres with tune with a his own style of oldskool funky breakz in his serie of loco breaks that I happend to be a big fan of! B.B Borne had been called Germany's answer to Fat Boy Slim and its not hard to tell with this track, but he still managed to give it his own style! I recognize some Breakbeat Paradise samples being put together very well in this tune - which makes all my hard work on this site worth it all!

This track is a real party groover and any break fan hearing this will wanna stand up and dance. Especially I love the cool vocal grooves and the awesome acid synth in the end of the tune. But man...its way to short I wouldn't mind it to go on for 6 - 7 mins!

Overall top end tune which celebrates everything a good funky break is about - having fun and keeping it real like back in the days!!!

An absolutly original production - a journey though trippy sounds! Superb mixing job...puting together all these different elements of music it quite an accomplishment - The frequent change of tempo, style and form is truely impressive!

Even though this is a really experimental tune you manage to make it sound good at the same time. Alot of artists doing what you do forgets that along the way!

This tune is not for the massaudience and I guess it wasn't intented to be! But there are a lot of cool elements to be found in this tune and you seem to find new stuff everytime you listen to it! I really enjoy the slow part that kicks in a 01:54 where the deep bass kicks in with the slow break. Thats aresome!

Love this tune! Hope to hear more form you...

Totally coolness. A really superior productions showing clear signs of Hell-G being a innovative and skilled producer. From what we have heard from him on the visitor worx we can never tell what style of music to get from him. The beat in this tune is upbeat and in-your-face and at the same time minimalistic - with is a combination that I never really heard before. The different elements of this song just fits perfect together and surely makes this a topend tune in the contest! I love the acidsynth that kicks in 02:15 - that just hot. I wanna do something like that - wonder how he made it :)

This tune demonstrates the art of Nu Skool Breaks - straight from the books and into your ears. This tune is pretty much a recipe on how to make a nu skool breka tune! Dj Data masteres this style to perfection and this song leaves noone in doubt! Breakalicious is a well-produced pumping tune with a dark atmosphere and a nice and progressive beat!

The beat brings a nice twist when it slows down to half speed at 03:33 after it made the whole roackafeller skank trick on us - but we can't get enough of that can we! This song will please the crowd for sure and should be out on vinyl as soon as possible for the nu skool breakers to get down to!

This tune is definitely a hot tune no doubt about it! Its creates a really cool jaz0y atmospgere that seems to match perfectly with the drum n bass beats. The beat has everything a drum n bass beat should have - especially the teasing beat at 01:41 give a nice change to the beat!

The best part of this song and what makes this tune stand out from the rest in the contest is the awesome vocals! They kick in after 3 mins which may be a little late? - but its a longs song so I guess there is a reason for it! It doesn't seem to be samples since the vocals matches perfectly with the song and it has a variety to it!

Overall a nice an original drum n bass tune with superb vocals and lots of nice instrumental parts! I like it a lot...

Last years winner of the Breakbeat Contest brings us something completly different this time. It proves him to be a worthy winner who can do more than one thing! I totally dig this tune - the chillout feeling and summer atmosphere is so hot that I almost get burned listining to it :) The guitarlines and the steady cool beats makes this tune perfect to kick back to! There is no doubt of the quality of this tune but I think its need a little extra to be a winner of this contest. Maybe some vocals or something - and once again its really hard to get a top placement with a chillout tune but this tune almost made it which is a hell of a job.

So Lodger - keep up the good work - you rock!!!

Mr Dave represents the new generation of funky breaks artists! The future is a good example of what this man can do - Rock the house without too much flashy diversion or nothing - just a good melody and some cool breakz! The is a art it self being able to keep it simple!

The synthline is nice and catchy and the beat is a funky groover with lots of variety of cuts and shapes! Great use of vocal samples and effects and the deep bassline sound just right for the breaks!

Overall a topend tune but its missing that littel twist to make it stand out! But a great tune and I hope to hear much more from Mr Dave in the "Future" :)

This is a true tech breaker! Some nasty chemical beatz and dirty distorted synth and acid grooves. This tune starts out really good with a nice catchy synthlines and guitar and some cool breaks - and it develops into some musical madness when the the freaky "flying" synth kicks in and confuses the listener. At first it sounds really wired but after a while it get to ya and you go with it. Its like that irritating fly sunday morning that keeps bugging you when you are trying to sleep :)

Overall a very innovative and well-produced tune with lots of cool elements. The beats are good and the synhthwork is really advanced - sometimes a little to advanced. Keeping it simple can be great challange when you got the skillz Wiccatron has! I guess its missing that certain thing that blows you away the very first time you hear it! The "Hit" element! Great tune though!

Oldskool 80's style break tune! The second one in this contest - and damn is it hot or what??? Full of vocoder voices and other cool voice samples. A coll and well-arranged tune that surely rocks the house! If you are not into the oldskool break tunes the way I cam you might not dig this tune! Maybe by replaceing the beats with some more up to date ones you may get access to more listeners. But its cool the way it is and its staying ture to the style! Awesome work!

Pretty cool work - You seem to get away with with the selfmade 2step beats that turned out pretty funky. Glad you used samples for vocals cuz that should great! Being able to mix up samples in a cool way is really what breaks are all about - so I guess this the the wrong style to choose if you dont want to use samples :) But I think you should stick with it though - cuz you got mad skillz!

The horn sections and funky wah wah guitar makes this track pretty groovy! And the madskill samples is just right on with the funky beats!

The beat however is doesn't quite live up to the quality of the rest of the production. I would have liked heaving a banging rough beat running with this stuff!

But overall a topend tune from the Belgian group that sure has a promissing future ahead of them. Making trax like this after just 2 years...damn thats impressive!

Michele Vincenzo Fusco surprises us with a really hard pumping drum n bass track for the contest. We know him from the visitor worx for doing mellow drum n bass. But this track roxx the house for sure and once again this shows that we doesn't deal with onesided artists that can do only one thing!

The forward moving basslines keep this track pumping to the very end! The effects and cuts in this song kicks ass and the voice samples makes this tune - well what else but cool! The beat is in the harder scale of drum n bass and I love when the vocal scream kicks "ahh" along with the snare!

The song however gets a little monotonous after a while - in the mellow tunes it doesn't really matter but when doing upfront tunes it has to keep the listener attension all the time! This is where this tune doesn't live up to its full potential

Overall very well-produced work from Michele Vincenzo Fusco as usual but with a little lack of variety...

NubianIcicle is a great chillout piece that leaves a nice and steady atmosphere throughout the entire tune! The pianolines are brilliant and it makes it a true chiller that I could shouldly lay back and get lost in! The beat is nice and steady and it doesn't take of too much attension from the beautiful melody. There is not to much variation in it though but I guess there should be in a ballad like this! Its always hard to get recognize on the charts or in a contest with a song like this but its surely a great piece of music! Keep up the good work I would like to hear more...

Ohh yeah oldskool funk party beak tune like back in the 80's! This stuff definitely belongs in breakbeat contest - hot as hell! A really entertaining tune with great vocoder vocals and a nice original oldskool 80's beat. Real minimalistic but in a newage way! Cool stuff for sure. However since this is a remix I can question how much of this tune is from the original? If its just the vocals and the whole oldskool funk thing is home mixed I think its surely a topend tune. But since the winners of this contest is gonna be out on vinyl we can't risk getting in trouble with too obious ripoffs!

Lots of breakbeat paradise samples are thrown in here for out listining plasure :) Funky guitar - horns and stabs to rock the house up - and it sure does! A really cool section is when the pianogroove kicks in and the beat start kicking away at 02:32 - a top breakbeat moment!

As we expected for the contestant of the breakbeat contest 2003 here is a twisted and mindblowing drum n bass production from Dr Prozak! Kicking back and closing you eyes to this musical madness is creating it own little universe inside you head! Hmm...maybe I'm getting crazy :)

A banging drum n bass tune with a hard progressive beat some hard basslines and some mellow synthlines to support it. Thats drum n bass the way I like it! Everything in this song is really well-produced and it doesn't leave anything to the imagination its just bangs away the whole song!

But the songs is pretty orinary and its don't bring anything new to the style. But I guess there is no reason when you master it as good as you doo. Feel it is a solid and well-produced drum n Bass tune with a nice melody. Very good synthlines that matches perfectly with each other which creates a nice harmony in the song. The vocal sample - I feel it really carries this tune with the with the synthlines! The beats is pretty ordinary without much variety which is a shame.

Its a nice tune to listen to when you wanna chill out or go into total trance on the floor - but it quickly get monotonous after 6 minutes without much change. But I can see the reason for doing this as the chillout aspect of it, where surprises would disturb the peaceful harmony that it has! Too bad the sound quality is not too goo (only 22 kHz) but this is not considered in the rating

Rough tech chemical tune with hard beats and mindblowing distorted synthlines. The synthlines really carries this tune - and they are extremely cool. Sould good with the heavy bigbeat that kicks away steady though the track. Its has a cool trippy atmosphere to it that just leave you banging you head to the deep beats.

But the song gets a little monotonous after a while - it doesn't have more than one section - a good section but no sections are really good enough to stand alone. So more musical elements and maybe some voice samples - vocoders maybe and this tune would be perfect!

A really nice and solid production with good progressive nu skool beats. The synthlines are good but the beeps are a little overused in the house productions these days - but it sounds good! The tune is a little har to figure out? Is is a progressive/upbeat tune or is it a mellow tune? It has elements of both. I guess it doesn't matter other than this tune can please both crowds - or maybe none of them?

Ohh yeah this stuff sure is fly! Oldskool 60's style funk is where breakbeat and hiphop originated from so what could be more perfect than to have a tune in the contest takes us back to when it all started! Now we can all start sampling and looping this stuff all over again and history would repeat it self :)

The quality of this tune is definitely good but I sense that the samples are a little out of timing some places. I have tried doing a tune like this - strictly funk and I had to chop up all loops into small pieces and put it back together to make the timing right! The chorus part of the song really rocks however to make this a true oldskool funk tune you should have a drum solo in the middle where the crowd would really get down to!

This is some mindblowing shiiiiit! Cool though - maybe a little too twisted for me but I like composition! Some really cool elements of reaggae and funk in between the out-of-control "sqarepusher-like" beats! Cool french vocals bongos! BUt the drums are really hard to figure out - which is probably the whole point. Usualy I like advanced beats but this actually reaches a point where it becomes noise instead. Just my opinion. The beats are too loud too - you can hear the rest of the production when they are kicking. I like the part where the beats quiets down at 03:43 - thats cool! A pretty nice and easygoing tune. Really pleasing to listen to but it hasn't got much to do with breaks - but that doesn't prevent it for being a nice song - but it might prevent it for winning this contest! I love the melodious elements of this song which is something a lot of the other tunes in the contest is missing. There is a certain well-balanced harmany about this tune!

Its a cool chillout tune but in order for it to really kick though in this contest the beat should have been a bit rougher - like trip hop style beats or something. I guess its too much ambient and too little breaks - if breaks at all!

A rather simple production of some classic break samples. Based on a filtered synthline and some oldskool breaks this tune takes you though some different sections of breaks and vocal samples. The mixing of the samples are good but there is no structure in the song - the whole thing seems pretty random - it doesn't seem to form a leitmotif? I could be wrong - maybe I just cant see it :)

It could be you are just new to the break genre cuz you do know how to put together samples and beats. You should give it some more tries and you will get there! Not bad at all!

Dark drum n bass producer Tone-def enteres with his remix of selfdestructions that was held by delicat records on the breakbeat paradise forum. A pretty unique track with lots of indian/etnic elements. Some pretty orinary drum n bass beats and some dark basslines is what has been added other than the samples from the original selfdestruction track and the etnic elements.

I gotta be honost that this stuff is too wired for me - the drum n bass elements are cool but the rest sounds kinda strange. Its an original idea but the result well...is not my cup of tea.

Nice asian twist this tune has - and its easy to tell that this is a trance producers work. Well-produced synth but with a poor beat - breaks cannot be produced as a house/trance beat! If you put great pride in not using loops in your songs I think breakbeat is not for you. Making a breakbeat with electronic drumkits usually ends up wack. You need the real-drummer beats to create a funky break which is loops that are usually cut into little pieces and rearranged to be put back together again.

But it has some good tune with some original elements but it would probably be better of with a trance beat I think!

Another hip hop tunes has found its way into the contest, which makes total sense since breaks and hiphop has the same roots in the old 60's/70'S funk!

The beat and the trippy atmosphere is cool but the song really needs a flow. It doesn't really have enough musical elements or variety to be a standalone instumental tune. The flute and "dance" synth sounds are awesome so all it need is some rap on it. With a good flow on this could be a great hiphop tune...

This is like a trance tune without the 4x4 drumbeat. The synthwork is really good which is what is what you trance producers are best as. Breaks artist like me could learn a lot for you guys about that! However since this is a breakbeat contest I have to look at this as a breakbeat tune and in that sense its missing something. The beat is produced as a house beat with electronic instruments which is a hard way to make a good breakbeat. You will need real drummer drumbeats to be able to make things really funky - its not enough with just a basskick and a snare and some hihats - you need the little ticks and tacks in between to make it rock! But I think its cool that you are trying out the breaks and I think you should give it another shot, cuz you sure know how to do some nice synthwork - love the part where the mellow synth runs alone at 04:30!

Overall a well produced tune however without too many surprices which makes this midend tune!

Pretty good result - considering you haven't been making music that long. The beat is pretty groovy it its own simpel way. The synth and basslines are pretty well balanced and matches each other pretty well. That usually something that difficult figuring out when you start out!

So I hope to hear more trax from you in the future..keep breakiing!

Too much of a remix to really be considered for a winning position in this contest! Based on and groove from a Clash tune from the 70's with a oldskool 80's rap acapella on top!

When that is said I think its a real party groover and Im sure it could pack the floor any time of the week! Its a nice match of raps and grooves - its almost like it was always like this - good remix work for sure

But the beat could have been a little harder if you ask me - a little more powerful and raw! But I guess the tune would loose its oldskool sound that way but It might be more accessable for modern day crowd...

I gotta say that this is not bad considering that Jan has only been making music for one year. You should have heard the tunes I made after one year - sucked big time :) The tune has a pretty nice atmosphere and the vocal samples are really good!

But the beats and the melody is a little disorgenized and for some parts of the song it sounds mess-up. But the song has some good elements and some nice ideas. So I'm guessing we are gonna beat more twisted drum n bass tunes form this guy in the future!

Love me tonight is more likely a house/disco tune than a break tune! It doesn't keep it from being a nice tune but I might not make it to the top of this contest! Its has a nice mix of vocals and synth and guitar hooks. The guitar hook carries this tune far and I think it makes the tune worth a listen for sure! You could give the beat a workover - even for a housebeat I seems a little tame. This tune could easily be turned into a trippy drum n bass tune if you wanted to! But the disco bassline seems to match it pretty well.

Overall a good tune with some great elements but in a breakbeat tune I cant rate it that high since there is no breaks in here - but had this been a house contest it sould have had much more...

Oldskool 80's style break tune. A classic drumloop with lots of vocal samples on top is pretty much what this song delivers. Its an fun song to listen to and your foot can help but bounce along to it - so something is working here :) Its got a cool section with some scratch sounds that starts at 00:22.

But I gotta say that this song is missing some musical elements - some kind of melody or something to go with the beats. The beats are not rough or dominating enough to carry this track alone.

Dog flow is a funny little tune but it doesn't seem quite finished yet. The idea of using a dog as an instrument is really good but there should have been more of it. The other elements of this song is not really as remarkable - the beat is steady and like the bassline pretty simple and steady. And the poor dog is shot 3 times in this song :)

Give it another shot and put in some more instuments and beats - and u might have something!

A cool hiphop inspired tune with lots of cool mc rapline and some hot hiphop beats. The beat kics in for real at 01:21 which almost at the end of the song since this is only a 2 and a half min. tune. The best part of this tune is the section before the beat kicks in "one for the money..." But I think the tune seems a little unfinshed - it has some cool elements - some good rap hooks and some nice beats but thats about it. A melody theme to unite all it all is missing.

Overall a good foundation that isn't really brought to its full potentials which leave this a midrange tune...

Eventhough this is very different from the original I still can't consider this for the contest since its too much a remix. But it soulds good - and it probably beats the crap out of the original!
