Funk up the Marina is a truly brilliant classic-style breakbeat tune and it sure has the sound of the bigbeat era. Even though Lodger is from the US he has a UK break style that would make most breakers scream with envy! The tune kicks off with a spicy break that are carried on with a classic vocalsample and a funky basslines that makes your feet start moving. A horn sample takes that fits perfectly in the mix takes over brings is on home! This is breakbeat at its best and I’m pretty sure that I would have given this a top score if it wasn’t for the poor sound-quality!

I make the beat break is a Nu Skool Break tune with hotness written all over it! Even trying to mention all the cool features of this song would be impossible. Here are some of them: A groovy nuskool break bassline, a gated female vocal, a fantastic acid synthline, a cool vocoder voice – awesome effects and some cool fastpackin’ breakbeat! The way the elements run together in this tune is pure magic. Virtualmode managed to combine the nuskool style with classic funky breakbeat by not making it to dark and fast! Overall this is a Nu Skool Break masterpiece, that ! From the first listen it simply took my breath away and sad back and thought to my self… “wow…what just happened?” Top stuff man – you deserve a top score in this contest!

The message sure bring back memories of the good old rave days. It’s an clever mixture of modern trance synth, early 90s eurodance, happy hardcore and “everybody in the place”-Prodigy beats! The production is extremely well put together and Bass Hungry has managed to unite these different styles in a way that makes you forget all about it and just drift along with it! But since I have to wear the breakbeat glasses I have to say this track is a little to common to get a top score. The tune is perfect the way it is so don’t you dare change it :-)

Sunset Cocktail is a beautiful drum ‘n’ bass tune that creates a nice atmosphere of being at the beachside chilling out! Everything in this tune is laidback and made with an undeniable professionalism. The melodylines are very well thought-out – especially the pianoline in the end of the tune! Overall a great production that I really enjoyed listening to. The sound and style is cool but it needs a little extra uniqueness in order to stand out in the crowd!

Stark Beat is a very interesting and twisted track with lots of cool elements combined together in an well-throughout Drum ‘n Bass production! This tune wasn’t comprehensible at first listen but after a while the whole thing began to make sense to me. To this is the sounds inside a mentally ill person (not you tone-def) – this are the associations I get when listing to it. The way the trippy elements keep coming back during the songs seems like mental disabilities that keeps on messing with one brain! Musically there is nothing you can put a finger on! The drum ‘n bass beats is controlled perfectly and the synthlines fits well together. Overall a very good and original tune for sure! What prevents me for giving this a top score is due to the first impression – but I’m glad I gave it another chance cuz I really enjoy it now…

A well-produced mellow drum ‘n’ bass tune with phat ass beat and amazing electro synthlines. There part where the beat slows down to half speed at 04:26 is a nice twist to steady structure of the tune! The intro is quite long, but when the tune kicks off you’ll find that it was definitely worth waiting for! It’s obvious to everyone that this style is not new to Elektronaut. He masters it to perfecting and uses all the ticks in the game to meet the listeners need for a good drum ‘n’ bass track! This production is so convincing that if you don’t already have a record deal – I’m pretty sure you will get it soon! There is nothing to add on the production but I miss that certain something to blow me away to give this a top score.

Shades of yellow is high-quality drum and bass production that impressed the hell out of me. The fact that Enimatek has only been producing is amazing – he surely picked it up fast and has a big future ahead of him! The track starts out creating a nice mellow atmosphere and kicks of a mindblowin’ forward moving beat that constantly changes! This tune would be suitable for a wipe-out style game with lots of speed! In order for me to give this tune a top score I would need a more original theme or melody to go with the cool atmosphere. Overall a solid drum and bass track with lots to offer!

The German group MM & T is another example of a group coming from a different style mixed with breaks in this tune. There is no doubt that MM & T are skilled music producers and they have lots of stuff on their repertoire! The mixture of classic drum ‘n bass beats with trance synth and house elements is quite successful and it creates a nice chill-out sound to just trip along with. However I’m not sure if this tune would have been better with ordinary house beats buts its definitely a cool experiment of styles!

Charlice is a classic-style breakbeat tune with everything that needs. I loved this tune from the very first time I heard it. Once the beat started it just blew me away! Andy Forner masters this propellerhead style perfectly and it leave nothing behind but a great satisfaction for the breakbeat lovers. This track might not be the most advanced production but the sound cannot be criticize is any way! The synth atmosphere gives a great twist to this upbeat tune along with the groovy filterbeat effects. Overall this is a superb production, but it brings nothing new to the to the style – but who needs new shiiit when it sounds like this :-)

Da Subculture is an example of all the different genres that is trying out breaks. Statik Effekt comes from Gabba Hardcore and has structured this tune like a gabba tune! Its actually amazing how well this works in a break tune – very original! Its cool to hear the Breakbeat Paradise samples being used in a production and if this is the outcome of this is the outcome of it – the samples are certainly woth sharing! At first listen I couldn’t quite get over the beats which was way to 80s for me – and the production was soooooo rough and with a premeditated primitivism! But this is actually what makes this tune so cool and original and to some instants cult! I’m gonna give this a middlescore since I miss a little smoothness in the composition of the different section of the song. Overall a very good oldskool gabba-style tune that could start a revolution (gabba beaks) – and I hope it will.

Hot time is a nice cocktail of trip hop, “Middle-Age”-sounding melodylines, electro basslines and sweet strings! For sure an interesting track with a lot of awesome details but also some elements that sounds quite accidental. The song has an awesome passage at 1:38 with some twisted synthlines and some heavy vinyl effects! The favorite part of this song is without a doubt the stringsamples that matches amazingly with the trippy synthlines! The beats could have been less experimental but after a few listens it doesn’t bother you too much! Overall a nice and original production in a style which is quite rare for this contest. Good stuff for sure!

Melting Pot is a beautiful drum ‘n bass tune with everything such a track would need. It’s very well produced and I think the visitors has been way to hard on him with their ratings! The different synthlines and basslines and horns matches perfectly and everything sounds thoroughly considered – down to the smallest detail. My favorite part of the tune has to be the acidlines and synth atmosphere at 02:54. There is definitely nothing to add on the production but it might need a little something to catch the listener’s attention at first listen. I really much enjoyed this tune and I’m surely gonna see if I can find more Michael Barker tunes!

A cool upbeat breakbeat electro tune from a good friend of Breakbeat Paradise! A solid production with an awesome beat and a nice male voiceline. Heavy use of filters and twisted loops makes this tune very interesting to listen to. The oldskool bassline might be slightly out of tune but its saved my the forward movin’ breakbeat that takes ones mind away from it. Overall a groovy and original tune with a little lack of production adjustment! Taken Daymoe’s experience in consideration this is quite an impressive tune and it shows that he truly has potentials!

High and Low is a cool upfront drum ‘n’ bass tune that smacks hard in you face from the very first minute! The tune has a quite heavy structure and some fastpackin’ beats that switches cleverly from fast to slow during the song. Unfortunately it doesn’t have much more than beats to offer! I really miss a melodyline or some vocals to bring this track out of the ordinary. I’m sure this is meant as an underground production since it does meet most criteria’s for that! It’s fast and dark and it has some phat ass beats! Overall a solid production with some cool features but with a little lack of originality!

A nice and solid production with a style that’s hard to characterize! Is has some kind of drum n bass beassline and a chill-out RnB style beat. Some elements of electro and funk too. That’s this makes this tune intangible at first – the first 2 listens you are struggling to find out what style this is. I guess we just need to put everything into patterns! The bassline in this track most have kept my neighbors awake a few times – mans its deep! Overall a good tune with nice features – but once again I most express my need to something catchy to hold on to during the first listen! Taken 1mind’s experience this is a really good job!

This is another example of a different style artist trying out breaks! This makes the entries in this contest really interesting. A lot of new vibes are coming into the style that noone ever knew existed. However this tune actually never gets that much into breakbeat – since there is no beat samples in this track. For a breakbeat fanatic like me this makes the beat pretty tame. Actually I think a 4x4 basskick would do better to this Goa-Trance arrangement! Don’t get me wrong this is a very well-produced track but it just isn’t breakbeat! It’s quite interesting with the ethnic atmosphere and it matches smoothly with the rest of the production. This is for the real technoheadz!

A cool and solid production from Dr Prozak! This is unique stuff and its surely has a style of its own! Its created a cool atmosphere to start out with which is taken over by a beat that starts fucking with you mind! This tune has some groovy drum ‘n bass features that fits well to the twisted production. The tune is quite a challenge to listen to but it should surely be credited for its uniqueness!

Persian Jungle sounds to me like a mixture between ethnical inspired trance and game-music. The ethnic-style synthlines are very impressive and it creates a nice atmosphere. If this track set out to be a drum ‘n’ bass or jungle tune I’m not sure it succeeded too well in that. The beats are not dirty and dominant enough. I think this track has plenty to offer but not as a break tune. The Ethnic flavor is very original but you need to try out some break samples in order for your tune to be Jungle-style! However you don’t sound like a sample-kind-of-musician – which is cool! Overall a nice theme but not quite a breaker!

Another house remix production has lost its way into the Breakbeat Contest! Its pretty nicely mixed but there is not much innovation in this production. The only thing that unites the different elements in this song is the 4x4 house beat and the Breakbeat Paradise samplelines! Overall this is a good djmix but its not material for a Breakbeat Contest!

Scrape is a cool attempt on a classic-style breakbeat tune. It has lots of really groovy element such as the guitarloop in the beginning – and strings in the middle! The beat however is a little too predictable and and I don’t feel that the pitch on some of the vocalsamples matches the beat! But this tune surely got the style – it might need some minor musical adjustments but it has an authentic feeling to it! Overall a cool and energetic track that I would give a thumps up any time of the week…

This is a cool and innovative djmix but its not quite what this contest is about. I might wanna do a DJmix contest one day cuz these songs are really fun to listen to. Mixing together songs that are so far from each other in styles are really amazing! I might be a little hard on Manriki calling this a DJmix cuz its obvious there are a lot of work put into it. But the fact that it’s based on Firestarter is the reason for my rating. The mixing of Madonna samples and the Champs guitarloop is a great idea – but there should have been added a “home-made” beat for it instead of Prodigy’s beat!

This is definitely one of the most original tracks that has entered into this contest. All my yelling for a catchy theme is implemented in this song :-) After listing to this tune a few times I simply couldn’t get it out of my mind! This is surely material for a hit song that we be stuck on everybody’s minds! The funky bassline and synthmelody is simply perfect. Changing the to a beats to a more danceable one and adding some vocoder vocal and you got youself another “Mr. Oizo – Flatbeat” –hit! This could be considered – house (French) or funk or pop – but not breakbeat. Since this being a breakbeat contest prevents me from giving a top grade – even though I really love this tune!

On a Flatbeat is a amusing little tune with a miniature beat and some twisted synthnoises that are really bugging on your brain! It might be that I don’t understand this kind of music but I have heard similar productions being quite popular I south Europe. Maybe the rest of us are just not quite ready for it yet – who knows. Judging it from a breakbeat point of view I don’t think it has much to offer, but I would give it some credits for its originality – cuz it sure is original!

This track sounds hot as hell! The grooves in this tune certainly lives up to the name of being “The Bounce Anthem”! It really got that oldskool funky feeling to it that makes you wanna hit the dancefloor and break it on down. The style is totally smooth but the production is rather simple. It only has a few loopbased elements and a voicehook and not too much variation. It borders on being a DjMix – but I don’t think it is. Great sound – but too few surprises!

The Admixture is a house mix of many different songs based on a simple 4x4 house/bass beat! If this was a DJ mix contest I might give this track a higher score – but I honestly don’t think this tune belongs in a breakbeat contest. The sound quality is not too good and I feel the bassline doesn’t fit all the elements of the song and I do miss some variation in music! Its seems that Jackel does know his music tool so I hope to hear some none-remix material in the future. Overall a nice djmix but its not breaks tune!

Just a small quote from the rules of the contest: No obvious ripoffs and remixes are allowed… I think this entry violates this quite a bit! Its not even breaks… I will not put a rate on this one since it wouldn’t be fair to rest of the entries in the contest! Nothing’s wrong with the mix – my girlfriend who is into Hip Hop and RnB like it a lot! This is just not the contest for this stuff!
